What's New at Sheehy
February 2012
Huron Aquatic Center
Sheehy Construction recently received contracts for the new Huron Aquatic Center in Huron, SD. The project delivery was open market competitive bid, which came in under budget allowing the city to add a few alternates and not make any cuts to the project.
Construction is slated to start in the spring and will consist of a 50 meter swim pool, a lazy river, leisure pool, and water slides. In addition the project includes bath houses, staff, concession, and pool mechanical buildings. Related site amenities include trails, picnic shelters, and several site play features.
BNSF Railway - Lincoln NE Track Pan Project
Sheehy Construction recently completed a track pan project for BNSF Railway in Lincoln, NE. Originally slated as a 2 1/2 month project, BNSF requested Sheehy to mobilize earlier and complete 1 month sooner due to flooding which reduced train traffic.
The project involved removing current fiberglass track pans and industrial sewer systems and installing new industrial waste storm sewer and steel track pans on the fueling platform. The platform is three tracks wide and needed to be completed 1 track at a time while the other two remained in use for fueling locomotives.
Once we started a track, work had to be performed around the clock, seven days a week until each section was completed. We utilized two 12 hour shifts for 28 straight days. The project required continuous coordination with BNSF staff to make sure we had access to the work areas and that BNSF could fill their locomotives. Not only did we complete the entire project earlier than the original schedule, we shaved a few days off of BNSF's accelerated schedule - all with no lost time accidents.
