HLRT American Boulevard Station

Location: Bloomington, MN
Client: Metro Transit
Architect: Kimley-Horn & Associates
Size: Two platforms totaling 6,600 sq. ft.
Year Completed: 2009

Completed in 2009, our work on the HLRT American Boulevard Station consisted of the construction of a new station with two platforms. It is the first Hiawatha station to feature a split-platform design and the work was completed two months ahead of schedule, allowing for additional ridership during the holiday season. The new station was constructed without interruption to active rail service other than one scheduled shutdown.

Our scope of work included concrete removal, installation of helical anchors, drain tile, water service, concrete grade beams, precast slabs, steel canopies, decorative railings, glazing, metal roofing, pavers, signage, VMS, and signal and electrical work.

Given that the trains come through every seven minutes, our team far exceeded normal safety requirements at a construction site and we had zero lost time accidents. As general contractor, we coordinated our own concrete team as well as several women-owned and minority-owned subcontractors, exceeding the diversity goals set forth in the public contract.
