HLRT Platform Extensions
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Client: Metro Transit
Architect: Kimley-Horn & Associates
Size: 9 stations totaling 13,160 sq. ft.
Year Completed: 2010
Based on the higher than anticipated light rail ridership as of 2008, Metro Transit determined there was a need for three-car trains on the Hiawatha line. The Platform Extensions project entailed extending existing platforms at nine stations by 70 feet to accommodate the longer trains. This allows the line to meet the continually growing demand without adding additional trains to the schedule or adding more drivers.
Our scope of work included demolition of access ramps, installation of helical anchors, drain tile, concrete grade beams, precast slabs, steel canopies, glazing, metal roofing, pavers, signage, VMS and signal and electrical work.
