Beth El Synagogue Addition & Renovation
Location: St. Louis Park, MN
Client: Beth El Synagogue
Architect: Miller Dunwiddie
Size:45,000 sq ft Remodel, 1,000 sq ft Addition.
Year Completed: 2011
The project consisted of a "grand entrance addition" as well as remodeling approximately 45,000 square feet of the existing two level synagogue. The purpose of the renovation was to improve occupant comfort, way-finding and accessibility, as well as provide additional usable space. Selective demolition was performed on both levels of the interior bearing walls only. New egress windows were added to the lower level providing additional occupiable space. Interior ramps and an elevator were added to improve accessibility. New restrooms and interior finishes were added as well.
The synagogue needed to remain open for regular services, therefore temporary walls were constructed to seperate the construction and worship spaces. Temporary sidewalks and drives were built to maintain access to the building. Services and events went on without interruption throughout the duration of the project.
